Civil society organisations from around the world have provided input to phase one of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank’s (AIIB’s) review of its Environmental and Social Framework (ESF), which closed 20 March 2020. The submissions cover a broad range of topics, such as information disclosure, climate change, gender, financing through financial intermediaries and biodiversity.
Civil society has called for their submissions to be made public on the AIIB’s website (unless requesting confidentiality), in line with other multilateral development banks (MDBs), however, this request has to date not been honoured.
Attached are the submissions from Recourse, NGO Forum on ADB, Inclusive Development International, Urgewald, Both Ends, Gender Action, Friends of the Earth US, the Coalition for Human Rights in Development, a group of Indian CSOs and a coalition of CSOs.
The second and final phase of the review is expected to start in June 2020.
